Privacy Policy

Effective August 16, 2026. Syntaxify is a Chrome extension that highlights and formats code locally in your browser. The developer does not receive, sell, or share your page content, browsing activity, settings, or selection history.

Data the extension accesses and why

Syntaxify accesses website content on pages where it runs so it can find code blocks, detect their language, and apply syntax highlighting. It also reads the current page URL to apply page and site exclusions and to label selection-history entries. This processing is necessary for the extension's single purpose and happens on your device.

Data stored on your device

Settings, language, theme, and exclusion rules are stored with chrome.storage.sync. Chrome may synchronize them through your signed-in browser account according to your Chrome sync settings; the Syntaxify developer cannot access them.
When you explicitly use “Highlight selected text with Syntaxify,” the selected text, formatted copy, page URL, detected language, and timestamp are stored with chrome.storage.local. The history is limited to five entries and is not synchronized.
Original code-block markup is kept only in the current tab's memory so the page can be restored. It is discarded when the page or tab is closed or reloaded.

Network transfer and sharing

The extension has no analytics, telemetry, advertising, remote code, CDN assets, or runtime network requests. It does not transmit page content, URLs, selections, history, or settings to the developer or to third parties. The optional Feedback link opens an external support page only after you choose it; anything you submit there is governed by that service's own privacy terms.

Permissions

The storage permission is used for settings and selection history. contextMenus provides the code-block and selected-text actions. Access to regular HTTP and HTTPS pages is required for automatic highlighting. Access to local file:// pages remains disabled unless you enable it separately in Chrome.

Retention and deletion

You can clear selection history from the selection window. You can remove individual exclusion rules from the popup. Removing the extension deletes its local data; Chrome may retain synchronized settings according to your browser-account controls.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Syntaxify uses data only to provide its disclosed code-highlighting and formatting features. Its use of information obtained through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
